Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ENKO 1 is an intra-articular injectable medical device consisting of a patented complex of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate developed by OPKO Health Spain to relieve pain and improve mobility in patients with degenerative and traumatic changes of the knee and other joints characteristic of osteoarthritis.[1] By combining viscoelastic hyaluronic acid, which supplements synovial fluid and improves joint lubrication, with chondroitin sulfate, which supports cartilage matrix integrity and may exert chondroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects, the product is designed to provide long-lasting symptom relief with as few as one injection per year.[1] ENKO 1 is being advanced for approval and commercialization in the European Union as a Class III medical device and is also under evaluation for use in companion animals through OPKO’s animal health businesses.[1]
