ENOB-HB-01 is a preclinical gene-modified cellular therapy designed as a potential functional cure for Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection. It utilizes a proprietary "Hijack RNA" technology intended to co-opt the HBV polymerase within infected liver cells, triggering a process that leads to selective cell death (apoptosis) of the infected cells while leaving uninfected cells unharmed. The therapy was developed by Dr. Serhat Gumrukcu at the Seraph Research Institute (SRI) and licensed to Enochian BioSciences. While the company completed the Pre-Investigational New Drug (Pre-IND) process with the FDA in early 2022, the program has since been embroiled in legal controversy following allegations by Enochian that preclinical data provided by the licensors was falsified.
