**eNOS-transfected autologous endothelial progenitor cells** is an investigational ex vivo gene-enhanced autologous cell therapy developed for vascular repair after acute myocardial infarction. Peripheral-blood-derived early endothelial progenitor cells are collected from the patient by apheresis, cultured and transfected to overexpress human endothelial nitric oxide synthase. The modified cells are subsequently administered into the infarct-related coronary artery. Increased endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression is intended to restore or augment nitric oxide-mediated endothelial repair, angiogenesis, cell survival, migration, and vascular regeneration in ischemic myocardium. The product was evaluated in the Phase IIb ENACT-AMI trial in patients with anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction following coronary revascularization.
