Overview

Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), including after certain surgeries or in patients who are bedridden. It is also indicated for the prevention of ischemic complications in unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction, as well as for use in combination with other agents to treat acute coronary syndromes. Enoxaparin works by binding to antithrombin III, which enhances its ability to irreversibly inhibit clotting factor Xa and, to a lesser extent, factor IIa (thrombin). This inhibition prevents the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin and thus blocks clot formation[1][2][3][5][6]. Developed by: Sanofi
