enrofloxacin

Enrofloxacin is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent from the class of fluoroquinolone carboxylic acid derivatives. It is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic used primarily in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, which are essential enzymes for DNA replication and repair in bacteria. This leads to rapid cell death[2][5][7]. Enrofloxacin is FDA-approved for use in dogs and cats to manage respiratory, urinary tract, skin infections, and other systemic diseases caused by susceptible organisms[4][5][10]. It was developed by Bayer Corporation.
