Overview

Ensifentrine is a first-in-class, selective dual inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3) and phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), developed for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults. By inhibiting both PDE3 and PDE4 enzymes, ensifentrine exerts bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory effects. It relaxes airway smooth muscle to improve airflow and reduces inflammation by decreasing proinflammatory cytokines. Ensifentrine is administered as an inhalation suspension via nebulizer, allowing direct delivery to the lungs for optimal effect. The drug has demonstrated significant improvements in lung function, symptom control, quality of life measures, and reduction in COPD exacerbations in phase III clinical trials[1][2][3][5][6][8].
