Entaclude

Entaclude is an antiviral medication marketed by San Fegan Biotech for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The active ingredient, entecavir, is a guanosine nucleoside analog that functions as a potent and selective inhibitor of HBV polymerase. By competing with the natural substrate deoxyguanosine triphosphate, it inhibits three functional stages of the viral replication process: HBV polymerase priming, reverse transcription of the negative strand from the pregenomic messenger RNA, and synthesis of the positive strand of HBV DNA. Entaclude is typically administered as a 0.5 mg oral tablet and is indicated for patients with evidence of active viral replication and either persistent elevations in serum aminotransferases (ALT or AST) or histologically active disease.
