Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Entecavir + Fuzheng Huayu is a combination therapy consisting of entecavir, a nucleoside analog antiviral agent that inhibits hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase, and Fuzheng Huayu (FZHY), a traditional Chinese herbal formula. This combination is primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B patients with significant liver fibrosis or cirrhosis. Clinical studies have shown that adding Fuzheng Huayu to standard entecavir therapy results in higher rates of necroinflammatory improvement and regression of liver fibrosis compared to entecavir alone[1][2][4]. The mechanism involves direct antiviral activity from entecavir and antifibrotic as well as hepatoprotective effects from the herbal components in FZHY. The combination may also reduce the risk of progression to hepatocellular carcinoma in certain patient subgroups[4].
