**Entecavir + pegylated interferon alpha** is a combination drug regimen used primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. **Entecavir** is a nucleoside analog that inhibits hepatitis B virus DNA polymerase, leading to suppression of viral DNA replication. **Pegylated interferon alpha** (either alfa-2a or alfa-2b) is a recombinant protein modified for longer half-life; it binds interferon alpha/beta receptors, activating the JAK/STAT pathway and inducing transcription of genes involved in the innate antiviral response, as well as immunomodulation. The combination is intended to offer synergistic effects: entecavir provides potent viral suppression while interferon boosts host immune response, aiming for higher rates of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) clearance and a functional cure. Combination therapy is used especially in pediatric and selected adult populations.
