Overview

Entecavir + sodium bicarbonate is a combination of two agents. Entecavir is a potent, selective guanine nucleoside analogue antiviral drug that inhibits hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication by blocking the activity of viral reverse transcriptase, thereby preventing viral DNA synthesis[2][3][6]. It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection in adults and children over two years old with active viral replication and abnormal liver function. Sodium bicarbonate is an alkalinizing agent commonly used to neutralize gastric acid or correct metabolic acidosis; it may also be co-administered to protect drugs from stomach acid degradation or to manage side effects such as acidosis[5]. The combination may be considered when both antiviral therapy and pH regulation are needed, but there are no widely recognized fixed-dose products combining these two ingredients.
