Enterobactin-CTB conjugate is a preclinical vaccine candidate designed to target the iron-acquisition machinery of enteric pathogens, specifically *Salmonella enterica* and *Escherichia coli*. The conjugate consists of enterobactin, a catecholate siderophore, covalently linked to the cholera toxin B subunit (CTB), which acts as a carrier protein and mucosal adjuvant. The mechanism of action involves the induction of high-titer anti-enterobactin antibodies that sequester the siderophore in the gut lumen. This sequestration prevents the bacteria from scavenging essential iron, thereby inhibiting their colonization and growth. This 'siderophore-based immunization' strategy represents a novel approach to antimicrobial therapy by targeting a conserved nutritional requirement of Gram-negative pathogens.
