Its mechanisms include restoration of normal gut flora balance after disruption by antibiotics or illness; secretion of factors that inhibit pathogen adherence; modulation of local immune responses; degradation of bacterial toxins; enhancement of mucosal barrier function; and anti-inflammatory effects. The combination aims to provide synergistic benefits by combining bacterial (E. faecium) with yeast (S. boulardii) probiotics—potentially broadening antimicrobial activity against pathogens while supporting both immune modulation and restoration/maintenance of healthy gut flora.
