Overview

Enterococcus faecium M-74 is a **probiotic bacterial strain** that has been studied for its cholesterol-lowering effects and gastrointestinal health benefits. The strain demonstrates the ability to reduce serum cholesterol levels through production of a hydrolase enzyme that catalyzes bile acid deconjugation and assists in cholesterol integration into the bacterial cell wall. In clinical studies, administration of E. faecium M-74 enriched with selenium resulted in a **12% reduction in total cholesterol** and significant decreases in LDL cholesterol after 56 weeks of daily use. The strain has been investigated for treating gastrointestinal complications in patients with myeloid leukemia. E. faecium M-74 is typically formulated with organically bound selenium (50 μg) at a dose of 2×10^9 colony-forming units per capsule for oral administration.
