Enterosgel is an oral intestinal adsorbent (enterosorbent) composed of **polymethylsiloxane polyhydrate (PMSPH)**, a methylsilicic acid hydrogel. It is classified as a medical device in the European Union and United Kingdom, while being regulated as a medicinal drug in Russia and CIS countries. The substance works through a physical adsorption mechanism, utilizing its porous structure to bind medium-molecular-weight toxic substances, bacterial toxins, bile acids, and allergens within the gastrointestinal tract. Because it is not absorbed into the systemic circulation, it acts locally and is excreted naturally with the bound substances. It is primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D), where it helps reduce stool frequency and alleviate symptoms like abdominal pain and urgency.
