Enterovirus 71 vaccine (vero cell), inactivated is an inactivated, whole-virus vaccine produced using vero cells and inactivated with formalin. It is designed to induce protective immunity against enterovirus 71 (EV-A71), which is a major causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). The vaccine works primarily by stimulating production of neutralizing antibodies against the VP1 capsid protein of EV-A71, conferring immunity and preventing severe outcomes, especially in children under five. The product was developed and licensed mainly in China, with three primary manufacturers (Sinovac Biotech, Beijing Vigoo, and Chinese Academy of Medical Science) having received approval from the Chinese NMPA following large-scale phase III trials. Its efficacy in preventing EV-A71-associated HFMD and severe neurologic complications is very high (90–100%) among young children[1][3][5].
