Enterovirus 71 vaccine with aluminum hydroxide refers to a class of inactivated viral vaccines developed to prevent hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and herpangina caused by Enterovirus 71 (EV71). These vaccines are typically produced using Vero cells or human diploid cells, where the virus is inactivated (e.g., using formaldehyde or binary ethylenimine) and then adsorbed onto an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance the immune response. Clinical trials, particularly Phase 3 studies in China, have demonstrated that these vaccines are highly efficacious, often exceeding 90% protection against EV71-associated HFMD in infants and young children. The vaccines work by inducing high titers of neutralizing antibodies that prevent viral entry and replication.
