Overview

Enterovirus D68 vaccine is an oral vaccine candidate being developed by iosBio for the prevention of Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) infection. EV-D68 is a non-polio enterovirus that primarily causes respiratory illness and has been increasingly linked to outbreaks of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), a serious polio-like neurological condition causing muscle weakness and paralysis, particularly in children. The vaccine is designed using iosBio's proprietary OraPro platform, which utilizes a non-replicating viral vector to deliver antigens directly to the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). This approach is intended to elicit both mucosal and systemic immune responses while offering the advantages of oral administration and thermal stability, eliminating the need for cold-chain logistics. As of 2024, the program is in the IND-enabling stage of development.
