Ento-A is a medicinal extract derived from the American cockroach (*Periplaneta americana*). It is primarily being investigated for its therapeutic potential in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). Preclinical studies indicate that Ento-A exerts anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway and regulating the balance of Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg cytokines. Specifically, it has been shown to decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) while increasing anti-inflammatory markers like interleukin-4 (IL-4) and forkhead box protein P3 (Foxp3). In animal models of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, Ento-A treatment has demonstrated the ability to reduce disease activity, mucosal damage, and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion while promoting intestinal healing.
