Envacgen

Envacgen is a DNA vaccine candidate developed by Eurocine Vaccines for the prevention of infections caused by *Chlamydia trachomatis*. The vaccine was designed to stimulate both mucosal and systemic immune responses by delivering genetic sequences encoding chlamydial antigens into host cells. Chlamydia is a major global health concern as the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection, often leading to asymptomatic cases that can result in severe complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, and infertility. Envacgen aimed to address this unmet need by providing a prophylactic solution. In December 2023, Eurocine Vaccines announced the discontinuation of the Envacgen project following a strategic review to prioritize other assets in its portfolio, such as its HSV-2 vaccine candidate.
