Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Envarsus XR is an extended-release oral formulation of tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant. It is indicated for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in kidney transplant patients—both de novo and those converted from immediate-release formulations—in combination with other immunosuppressants. Tacrolimus works by inhibiting calcineurin, thereby suppressing T-lymphocyte activation and reducing the immune response that can lead to organ rejection. The once-daily tablet provides stable blood levels over 24 hours due to its unique extended-release formulation[1][2][3]. Developed specifically for kidney transplant recipients, Envarsus XR is not interchangeable with other tacrolimus products[2][3].
