Overview

EnvDNA is a recombinant DNA plasmid vaccine candidate developed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine is engineered to contain genetic sequences encoding multiple versions of the HIV-1 envelope (Env) protein, which forms the outer coating of the virus. Upon administration, host cells take up the plasmid and express these viral proteins, which are intended to trigger a robust immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation. EnvDNA was primarily evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy, HIV-uninfected adults.
