Enzaplatovir (BTA-C585) is an orally bioavailable small molecule antiviral developed for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. It acts as a selective inhibitor of RSV by targeting the viral fusion protein and thereby blocking viral entry into host cells. The drug was initially developed by Biota Pharmaceuticals (later Aviragen Therapeutics), with clinical development reaching Phase 2a trials in healthy adults using a human RSV challenge model to assess safety and antiviral activity[1][2][4][7].
