Enzepi

Enzepi is a pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) containing pancrelipase, a mixture of digestive enzymes including lipases, proteases, and amylases derived from porcine pancreatic glands. It is indicated for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) associated with cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, or post-pancreatectomy. Developed by Allergan (now part of AbbVie), Enzepi replaces deficient endogenous enzymes to facilitate the digestion and absorption of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The drug is formulated as gastro-resistant capsules to protect the enzymes from gastric acid, ensuring their release in the small intestine where they exert their catalytic effects.
