Enzyme-Gentamycin Wound Gel Spray is a topical combination product developed by Kane Biotech (Kanesa) for the treatment of wound and biofilm-associated infections. It consists of the enzyme DispersinB (β-N-Acetylglucosaminidase) and the aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin, formulated in a thermo-reversible gel spray that transitions from a liquid to a gel at body temperature. The mechanism of action involves the enzymatic hydrolysis of poly-β-1,6-N-acetylglucosamine (PNAG), a critical structural polysaccharide in many bacterial biofilms. By degrading the biofilm matrix, DispersinB exposes the embedded bacteria to gentamicin, which subsequently inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bacterial cell death. This dual-action approach is designed to overcome biofilm-mediated antimicrobial resistance in chronic wounds.
