Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Enzystream** is a topical enzymatic debridement solution containing papain, a proteolytic enzyme derived from papaya, used in the DERMASTREAM™ - ENZYSTREAM™ system for wound care. It facilitates the removal of non-viable tissue, bacteria, and debris from chronic wounds such as venous leg ulcers by selectively breaking down necrotic material through cysteine protease activity, promoting cleaner wound beds for healing. Developed by EnzySurge, it was evaluated in a phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT00485329, completed) at low (15,000 USP U/ml), medium (30,000 USP U/ml), and high (60,000 USP U/ml) doses, administered via a delivery system, with a 4:1 drug-to-placebo ratio per arm.[3][7]
