eOD-GT8 60mer mRNA vaccine is an experimental HIV vaccine candidate designed to prime the immune system to produce broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV. The vaccine encodes a germline-targeting immunogen (eOD-GT8 60mer) delivered via an mRNA platform. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating rare precursor B cells capable of developing into bnAb-producing cells, specifically those that can recognize conserved regions on the HIV envelope protein gp120. This priming step is intended as part of a multistep vaccination regimen to guide B cell maturation toward effective bnAb responses. The candidate is being developed through collaborations involving Scripps Research, IAVI Neutralizing Antibody Center, and Moderna, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and NIH agencies[2][5][6][8].
