EP-100 is a synthetic targeted membrane-disrupting peptide (tMDP) designed to selectively seek and destroy cancer cells that overexpress luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) receptors on their surfaces. It consists of a 28-amino acid LHRH peptide conjugated to an 18-amino acid cytolytic peptide. The drug binds directly to the extracellular LHRH receptor, which is overexpressed in various cancers such as ovarian, breast, colon, and uterine cancers. Upon binding, the cytolytic portion disrupts the cell membrane, leading to rapid tumor cell death by necrosis. Preclinical studies have shown synergy between EP-100 and chemotherapeutic agents like paclitaxel. Clinical trials have demonstrated its safety profile and potential efficacy in patients with advanced solid tumors expressing LHRH receptors, particularly those with ovarian cancer resistant to standard therapies[1][2][3][5].
