EP-104IAR

EP-104IAR is an investigational extended-release injectable formulation of the corticosteroid fluticasone propionate. Developed by Eupraxia Pharmaceuticals, it is designed for intra-articular injection to provide long-term pain relief in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). The drug utilizes a microns-thin polymer membrane to encapsulate and slowly release fluticasone propionate directly into the joint over up to six months. This targeted delivery aims to maintain therapeutic concentrations locally while minimizing systemic exposure and side effects commonly associated with corticosteroids. Clinical trials have demonstrated that a single dose of EP-104IAR can provide statistically significant and durable pain relief compared to placebo for at least 12–14 weeks, with benefits persisting up to 24 weeks in some measures. The safety profile has been favorable, showing minimal impact on serum glucose and cortisol levels and no treatment-related serious adverse events[1][2][4][5][6][8][9][10]. In addition to knee OA, early clinical development is ongoing for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), where the same technology platform may offer localized anti-inflammatory effects.
