EP-1090 is a plasmid DNA vaccine composed of engineered cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) epitopes from HIV-1 designed to elicit strong, multi-epitope, cell-mediated immune responses against HIV-1. Developed originally by Epimmune and later associated with VaxOnco, this prophylactic HIV DNA vaccine encodes selected conserved CTL epitopes intended to broaden and enhance antiviral CD8+ T-cell responses, thereby improving control of HIV-1 infection or preventing acquisition when used as a vaccine. It has been evaluated in early-phase clinical trials primarily to assess safety, tolerability, immunogenicity, and antiviral activity in humans.[6][8][9][10]
