EP102 (Epalex)

EP102 is an oral formulation of fospropofol, a prodrug of propofol, being developed by Epalex for the acute treatment of migraine. It acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor. By enhancing the inhibitory effects of GABA, EP102 is intended to provide relief from migraine headache pain and associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and photophobia. Its mechanism of action is also thought to involve the inhibition of cortical spreading depression, a key physiological event in migraine pathophysiology.
