Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**eP53** is the elephant TP53 protein, leveraging elephants' natural cancer resistance due to multiple TP53 gene copies that enhance p53-mediated apoptosis. Delivered via liposomal nanoparticles by PEEL Therapeutics, eP53 induces rapid and robust cell death in human cancer cells, particularly osteosarcoma, by restoring or enhancing p53 function and triggering apoptosis even in p53-mutant contexts. Developed from research by Dr. Joshua Schiffman and Dr. Avi Schroeder, it targets pediatric bone tumors lacking new therapies in over 40 years, with preclinical efficacy shown in vitro and in patient-derived xenograft models.
