Overview

EpCAM-specific CAR-T cells are an investigational autologous cell therapy developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College for the treatment of EpCAM-positive solid tumors. The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that specifically recognizes the Epithelial Cell Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM), a cell surface protein frequently overexpressed in various carcinomas including colon, gastric, and pancreatic cancers. Upon administration, these CAR-T cells bind to EpCAM on tumor cells, triggering T-cell activation, proliferation, and the release of cytotoxic granules and cytokines, which results in the targeted lysis of the malignant cells. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for patients with relapsed or refractory EpCAM-positive cancers.
