Overview

EPD-2520 is a small molecule partial agonist of the mu opioid receptor (MOR) being developed by Epiodyne for the treatment of pain and opioid use disorder (OUD). It is designed to provide potent analgesia while mitigating the risks of respiratory depression and addiction typically associated with full MOR agonists. Preclinical data indicates that EPD-2520 offers pain relief comparable to oxycodone but with significantly reduced drug-seeking behavior and respiratory liability. Additionally, in models of morphine detoxification, it has shown the ability to reduce cravings and exhibit lower precipitated withdrawal compared to buprenorphine. The drug is currently in the IND-enabling phase, moving toward first-in-human clinical trials.
