eperisone

Eperisone is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant and antispasmodic agent. It works by relaxing both skeletal muscles and vascular smooth muscles, leading to reduced myotonia (muscle stiffness), improved circulation, and suppression of the pain reflex. Eperisone inhibits the vicious cycle of myotonia by decreasing pain, ischemia, and hypertonia in skeletal muscles. This alleviates stiffness and spasticity while facilitating muscle movement without significantly reducing muscle power or causing strong sedation compared to other antispasmodics. It is also used to improve dizziness and tinnitus associated with cerebrovascular disorders or cervical spondylosis. The drug is commonly used in rehabilitation settings for conditions such as spastic paralysis due to cerebrovascular disease or spinal cord injury, cervical spondylosis, postoperative sequelae (including after brain or spinal tumor surgery), trauma sequelae (spinal/head injury), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cerebral palsy, spinocerebellar degeneration, spinal vascular diseases and other encephalomyelopathies.
