Overview

EPI-005 is a preclinical-stage monoclonal antibody developed by Epibiotech (EPI) for the treatment of alopecia areata (AA). It functions by neutralizing C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12), also known as stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1). CXCL12 is a chemokine that plays a critical role in the recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells, including T lymphocytes, to the hair follicle environment. By blocking the interaction of CXCL12 with its receptors, EPI-005 aims to mitigate the autoimmune-mediated destruction of hair follicles that characterizes alopecia areata, potentially allowing for hair regrowth. The asset is currently in the early discovery and preclinical development phase.
