Overview

EPI-2010 is a 21-mer phosphorothioate respirable antisense oligonucleotide (RASON) developed for the treatment of asthma. It specifically targets the mRNA of the adenosine A1 receptor, leading to its degradation and preventing synthesis of new receptor protein. By reducing adenosine A1 receptor expression in the lungs, EPI-2010 attenuates bronchoconstriction, inflammation, and surfactant depletion associated with asthma. The drug is administered via inhalation and has demonstrated potent effects in preclinical models as well as initial clinical trials. Its duration of effect can last up to nearly a week despite a relatively short half-life in lung tissue[2][3][1].
