Overview
Epi-Rad90 is a focal, directional beta radiation delivery system designed for the treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) associated with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The system utilizes a handheld medical device to temporarily place a sealed Strontium-90 (Sr-90) radiation source over the retinal lesion during a standard vitrectomy procedure. This allows for the precise delivery of beta radiation to target tissues, inhibiting the proliferation of abnormal blood vessels. The device was primarily evaluated in the Phase 3 CABERNET trial, often in combination with anti-VEGF therapy, but the development was discontinued after the trial failed to meet its primary efficacy endpoints.
