Overview

EPI-SK14 is a topical small molecule formulation of artemether, a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin, being developed by EpiPharm for the treatment of seborrheic keratosis (SK). While artemether is traditionally utilized as an antimalarial agent, its application in EPI-SK14 leverages its ability to induce apoptosis and inhibit the proliferation of keratinocytes, which are the primary cell type in seborrheic keratosis lesions. By targeting these benign skin tumors topically, EPI-SK14 aims to provide a non-invasive therapeutic alternative to physical removal methods such as cryotherapy or curettage. EpiPharm has completed Phase 1/2 clinical trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this formulation.
