Overview

Epibrassinolide is a plant-derived steroid hormone belonging to the brassinosteroid family, characterized by a polyhydroxysteroid structure similar to vertebrate steroid hormones. Primarily recognized for its role in plant growth regulation, it has gained attention in oncology for its potential anti-cancer activities. Research indicates that epibrassinolide can inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in various cancer types, including colon cancer and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), while exhibiting minimal toxicity toward non-cancerous cells. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of autophagy and cell cycle arrest, as well as the downregulation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. In preclinical models, such as SCID mouse xenografts, epibrassinolide has demonstrated the ability to reduce tumor volume and diameter in a dose-dependent manner, potentially acting as a cytostatic agent.
