Overview

EpiDex is an autologous epidermal cell graft and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) developed by Healiva for the treatment of severe, chronic venous leg ulcers (VLUs). The therapy is produced by harvesting progenitor keratinocytes from a patient's own hair follicles, which are then expanded in vitro using fibroblast feeder cells to create small, transplantable discs of autologous epidermis. These discs are applied directly to the wound bed in a non-surgical procedure, where they facilitate tissue regeneration and promote complete wound closure. EpiDex provides a non-invasive alternative to traditional split-thickness skin grafting, offering comparable clinical outcomes with reduced patient morbidity. Originally developed by Smith+Nephew, the product dossier was acquired by Healiva in 2022 to enable market re-launch.
