Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Epiduo is a topical combination gel containing the retinoid-like compound adapalene (0.1%) and the antimicrobial agent benzoyl peroxide (2.5%). It is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris in patients 12 years of age and older. Adapalene acts as a modulator of cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes by binding to specific nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RAR-beta and RAR-gamma), which helps reduce microcomedone formation. Benzoyl peroxide provides bactericidal activity by releasing oxygen free radicals that oxidize bacterial proteins, specifically targeting *Cutibacterium acnes* (formerly *Propionibacterium acnes*), while also exerting a keratolytic effect. The product was originally developed by Stiefel, a GSK Company, and the brand was later acquired by Galderma.
