Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The epidural anesthetic cocktail is a combination pharmaceutical product designed for epidural administration following endoscopic lumbar discectomy. It comprises triamcinolone (a corticosteroid), bupivacaine (a local anesthetic, referred to as Marcaine in the context), and morphine (an opioid analgesic). This combination aims to alleviate postoperative pain, reduce hospital stay duration, decrease the time to first analgesia, lower post-operative opioid consumption, improve functional outcomes, and facilitate a quicker return to work, while also minimizing postoperative complications. The cocktail is applied by soaking it into a gelfoam and placing it on the epidura.
