Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Epimedin A is a flavonoid glycoside isolated from the *Epimedium* genus (commonly known as Horny Goat Weed). It is currently under preclinical investigation for its potential therapeutic application in glioblastoma. Research indicates that Epimedin A inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of glioblastoma cells, such as the U87 line, in a dose-dependent manner. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through the activation of Caspase-3 and the subsequent cleavage of PARP. Furthermore, Epimedin A regulates the expression of several pro- and anti-apoptotic factors, including Bcl-x, HIF-1alpha, Bad, Bax, Cytochrome C, and SMAC/Diablo, and has been shown to reduce the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cancer cells.
