Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STN1011402 is an ophthalmic cream formulation containing 0.5% epinastine hydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer. Developed by Santen Pharmaceutical, it is indicated for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Unlike traditional liquid eye drops, this formulation is applied topically to the skin of the upper and lower eyelids, which may improve patient comfort and compliance by avoiding the stinging sensation often associated with ophthalmic solutions. Epinastine works by competitively antagonizing histamine H1 receptors and inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells. It was approved in Japan in September 2023 under the brand name Alesion Ophthalmic Cream 0.5%.
