Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Epinephrine + NaCl is a compounded intraoperative formulation consisting of epinephrine hydrochloride (the active ingredient) diluted in a sodium chloride (saline) solution. It is administered via intramyometrial injection during surgical procedures such as laparoscopic myomectomy. Epinephrine acts as a potent vasoconstrictor by targeting alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors, causing local narrowing of blood vessels at the injection site. This mechanism is utilized to minimize intraoperative blood loss and improve the surgical field during the excision of uterine fibroids. The formulation is currently being investigated in clinical trials, notably by Zagazig University, as a surgical adjunct to reduce operative time and blood loss compared to traditional methods or uterine artery occlusion.
