Epioxa HD

Epioxa HD is a riboflavin 5'-phosphate ophthalmic solution (0.239%) developed by Glaukos Corporation for the treatment of keratoconus in adults and pediatric patients. It is a small molecule photoenhancer used as part of an epithelium-on (epi-on) corneal collagen cross-linking procedure. Administered sequentially with a companion formulation (Epioxa), the solution is activated by 365 nm UV-A light in an oxygen-enriched environment created by the O2n System and Boost Goggles. This process generates chemical cross-links between corneal collagen fibers, thereby strengthening the corneal structure and halting the progression of the disease. Approved by the FDA in October 2025, Epioxa HD represents the first approved epi-on therapy, which avoids the need for corneal epithelium removal, leading to improved patient comfort and faster recovery.
