Overview

Epirubicin + cyclophosphamide (commonly referred to as "EC") is a combination chemotherapy regimen primarily used in the treatment of breast cancer. Epirubicin is an anthracycline that works by intercalating DNA, inhibiting DNA and RNA synthesis, stabilizing the topoisomerase II-DNA complex, and generating cytotoxic free radicals, leading to cell death[6][3]. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and transcription by cross-linking DNA strands[4]. Together, these drugs target rapidly dividing cancer cells. EC is typically administered intravenously in cycles every 2 or 3 weeks[1][5][8].
