EpiSC-derived dopaminergic progenitors are midbrain dopaminergic (DAergic) precursor cells generated from mouse epiblast stem cells (EpiSCs) through a stepwise differentiation protocol involving the control of FGF signaling. These cells are primarily utilized as a research tool in preclinical studies for Parkinson's disease (PD) to evaluate cell-replacement strategies. In mouse allograft models, these progenitors have demonstrated the ability to survive, differentiate into mature tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-positive neurons, and provide functional motor recovery comparable to the gold-standard primary fetal ventral mesencephalon (VM) tissue. They are currently used in academic research settings to study the efficacy and safety of pluripotent stem cell-derived transplants in neurodegenerative disease models.
