Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EpiTab is a sublingual tablet formulation of epinephrine (adrenaline) developed by ITL Pharmaceuticals for the emergency treatment of acute anaphylaxis and severe allergic reactions. Designed as a non-invasive alternative to traditional intramuscular auto-injectors, EpiTab utilizes a rapidly dissolving sublingual delivery system to ensure quick systemic absorption of the active ingredient. Epinephrine functions as a non-selective agonist of alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors. Its action at alpha-1 receptors induces peripheral vasoconstriction to improve blood pressure and reduce mucosal edema, while its effect on beta-2 receptors promotes bronchodilation and inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells and basophils, effectively counteracting the life-threatening symptoms of anaphylactic shock.
