Epithalamin is a peptide bioregulator derived from the bovine pineal gland, developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology under the direction of Vladimir Khavinson. It is primarily recognized for its geroprotective properties, aimed at slowing the aging process and preventing age-associated diseases. Its synthetic analog, Epitalon (a tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), is considered the primary active constituent. Epithalamin acts by restoring the functional activity of the pineal gland, which leads to increased endogenous melatonin secretion and normalization of circadian rhythms. Furthermore, it has been shown to activate telomerase, thereby maintaining telomere length and promoting cellular longevity. Clinical research in Russia has demonstrated its ability to improve immune function, enhance antioxidant capacity, and extend the lifespan of elderly subjects.
